Clear the Air and Keep Pennsylvania’s Children Healthy
Less than 1 in 10 of the vehicles on Pennsylvania’s roads are large delivery vans, trucks, and buses — but they produce more than half of all cancer-causing nitrogen oxide (NOx) and fine particulate (PM) tailpipe pollution. These invisible pollutants make our kids less healthy and our communities less safe.
Today, 69,000+ kids across Pennsylvania are attending school or daycare within a high-exposure zone for toxic diesel exhaust.
A new report, Clearing the Air, from the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, Moms Clean Air Force, and Generation 180 found that diesel pollution from trucks poses serious health risks to children, especially those who live, learn, or play near major trucking routes.
Pennsylvania can keep kids safe by electrifying our transportation sector. Electrifying vehicles reduces emissions and pollutants. It makes our communities quieter and safer. It prevents health issues for our kids.
But electrifying vehicles is not just a public health issue. Pennsylvania can create jobs and become a leader in clean energy technology with the right policies.
